Woven Hemispheres
Woven Hemispheres, NAS, 51.4%
Time to try another blended whisky from the Edinburgh magicians at Woven. This is a world blend where the composition is surprisingly simple, even for Woven:
26% Thomson Distillery Manuka smoked single malt (New Zealand)
74% North British single grain (Scotland)
This is also a blend with an unusually high grain content for Woven. More often than not they have a very high malt content in their blends. Not sure if this has any significance whatsoever, but I find it fun and interesting that it clocks in at the same ABV as the iconic Nikka From the Barrel; 51.4%.
The Woven Hemispheres is available in Norway at NOK 670 (17323202).
Nose: Peaty and citrusy fresh, with a grounding earthiness. Notes of peat, nuts, and freshly turned black soil. Bright, zesty citrus follows, with a distinct yuzu character. Sweet undertones of vanilla and honey round it out. With time, delightful hints of smoky and salty caramel emerge.
Taste: Full bodied and quite spicy up front. Herbal honey mixes with soot and white pepper. The citrus returns alongside a relaxed nuttiness; more specifically, marzipan dusted with grated milk chocolate.
Finish: Medium to long finish. It gently mellows, with soft, sweet notes of sooty marshmallows. A faint whisper of green herbs lingers in the background.
Comment: Grit and grace!
