Smögen Askeim
Smögen Askeim, 8 YO, 57.7%
The Askeim is an exciting product from Smögen, Sweden. Previously well-known for their uncompromising, heavily peated whiskies, the Askeim is a lightly peated variety made exclusive using the old barley variety Golden Promise. Matured in ex-bourbon quarter casks (125L).
The Smögen Askeim is available to buy in Sweden at SEK 849 (38159).
Nose: A warm and inviting blend of honey, toasted oak, vanilla, and roasted marshmallows. Over time, the sweetness deepens with notes of honey and unsalted peanuts.
Taste: Full-bodied, spicy, and rich. Pine wood, white pepper, and cinnamon lead the way, complemented by orchard fruits, honey, and the tangy complexity of Seville oranges.
Finish: Medium long, with a focus on the bitter-sweetness of Seville oranges, dark chocolate, and toasted oak. Subtle hints of honey and pencil shavings linger.
Comment: A well-rounded and complex dram.
