Smögen 2011 12 YO
Smögen 2011 12 YO, 56.6%
Distilled Autumn 2011, and bottled February 2024. Made using distillery estate grown barley, peated. Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. Limited to 1716 bottles.
Still available to buy in Sweden at SEK 899 (30381).
Nose: The pine wood forests of Sweden are ablaze in the best way possible. Delightful aromas of marshmallows, unsalted peanuts, and a zesty hint of citrus make for an inviting treat.
Taste: Full-bodied and quintessentially Smögen! Creamy, fruity, and malty with an abundance of pine wood smoke. Notes of toasted oak, vibrant orange zest, vanilla, and roasted almonds round out the palate beautifully.
Finish: Medium to long. The wood smoke remains a dominant presence, complemented by toasted oak, a pinch of salt, and a spicy mix of black and white pepper. Hints of iodine, chili flakes, and dried orange peel add complexity.
Comment: A superbly balanced smoky and flavorful journey.
