Myken vindstyrker - Stiv kuling

Myken vindstyrker - Stiv kuling, NAS, 47%

The Myken vindstyrker series is a range of four products from Myken Distillery, Norway. “Vindstyrker” equals wind speeds, and the series aim to show off the differences in expression when you mature unpeated and peated whisky in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The Myken vindstyrker - Stiv kuling is a peated whisky matured in 40L ex-sherry casks (Oloroso, PX and Cream sherry). See the official product page for further details.

Nose: Dried fruits and a chocolate like sweet wood smoke. Chocolate mousse on fire - perhaps. With time also a mild nuttiness.

Taste: Medium body and full on sweetness. Caramel, soot, malt and peat.

Finish: Medium long. Drier in character now. Dried fruits and dry wood smoke dominate - raisins and figs stand out. The PX casks do seem to have the final say.
