Myken Nordlys, 6 YO, 47%

Image (c) Whiskybase

This is the latest release from Myken. Launched on May 8, 2024. This whisky was initially matured for one year in four small 2nd fill Hungarian oak barrels (50L). Then the spirit from the four small barrels were emptied into a single 1st fill ex-bourbon barrel, and left there for a further five and a half years. Limited to 444 bottles (50 cl).

The Myken Nordlys is still available in Norway at NOK 1170 (17181202).

Nose: Initially shy, with mild notes of chocolate and coffee, complemented by toasted oak. Warm and welcoming, it develops earthy aromas of cinnamon and nutmeg over time.

Taste: Medium to full-bodied, featuring dark and fizzy peppery notes with a slightly dry character. Flavors of ginger and honey cake evolve into chocolate marzipan.

Finish: Medium-long, becoming drier yet retaining its spicy and fizzy profile. Mild oakiness accompanies notes of grapefruit that have been seared on a charcoal BBQ.

Comment: A dram that invites you to dance.
