Loch Lomond The Open Course Collection 2021, 20 YO, 50.2 %

Here is this year’s second “golf whisky” from Loch Lomond Distillery. This is a rather special release, both in that it is 20 years old, and that it has received a finish in English virgin oak!

“This 20-year-old single malt has been matured in our finest American oak casks before being finished in English Virgin oak,  creating a stunning liquid with an underlying fruit character.”

The Loch Lomond The Open Course Collection 2021 will go on sale in Norway on May 5 at NOK 1860 (13089401). The You can also get it directly from the Loch Lomond online shop at GBP 160.

Nose: Rich fruitiness - apples and pears mainly. A bit dusty - showing its age. With time vanilla and strawberries. Softly herbal.

Taste: Rich and full bodied. Lots of honey. Apples and pears. White pepper. Butterscotch. Hints of oakiness and chili.

Finish: Long finish. It remains fruity and rich all the way. Also green herbs and hay on the finish. Toasted oak now. Something metallic in the background towards the end but it does not bother me in the least.

Comment: A very fine golf whisky, or indeed simply a very fine whisky!
