Loch Lomond The Open Special Edition 2021, NAS, 46 %
This is the first of two “golf whiskies” recently released by Loch Lomond.
From the official product page:
“Matured in three types of American oak casks, before a partial finish in Virgin American Oak, the 2021 Open Special Edition delivers an approachable single malt with underlying fruit character and a gentle hint of peat smoke.”
The Loch Lomond The Open Special Edition 2021 will go on sale in Norway on May 5 at NOK 800 (13089301). You can also get it directly from the Loch Lomond online shop at GBP 40.
Nose: Ripe, green apples in a wooden crate. Tinned pears. A whiff of dry smoke in the background. With time the expected vanilla, and also milk chocolate.
Taste: Medium body. On the palate it is just as fruity - hints of tropical fruits as well now. Moderately spicy as well - white pepper and ginger.
Finish: Medium long finish. Ginger and honey now - with a minty twist. The apples and pears remain in the vicinity. The little peat smoke there is comes across more as chocolate on the finish.
Comment: Pleasant and slow paced - much as I image a game of golf would be, if I ever tried it.
Score 86/100
