Invergordon 1972 43 YO 5th Anniversary Dram (Svenska Eldvatten)
Invergordon 1972 43 YO 5th Anniversary Dram, 48,9 %
Swedish independent bottler Svenska Eldvatten (Swedish Fire Water) celebrate their 5th anniversary these days, and they will shortly release a few special whiskies to celebrate the occasion. One of these whiskies is the Invergordon 1972 43 YO 5th Anniversary Dram.
This grain whisky was distilled in December 1972, and bottled in March 2016. It was matured in an ex-bourbon barrel (#SE068), and the total outturn is given as 86 bottles. I suspect this is just part of the cask, and that some other IB will release their own expression from the same cask.
For now there is no information on release date or sales price in Sweden, but you can buy this whisky at the Whiskybase Shop at € 249. I will update as soon as I know more.
Nose: Warm and rich nose. Baked apples, with cinnamon and honey. Warm porridge (yeah, I know, but it works, I promise!). Vanilla, marshmallows, and hints of unsalted peanuts. After some time I pick up soft fruity notes as well, hard to decipher exactly but it is certainly some kind of tropical aroma.
Taste: Super smooth and rich mouthfeel. Vanilla, cereal, soft spices, mild honey and again light tropical notes. I do like the body of this dram. Feels robust and light at the same time.
Finish: Long and soft finish. Delicate sweetness caressing the palate all the way to the finish line. Did I mention the somewhat fizzy ginger notes? It does not really feel oaky, even at this advanced age.
Comments: Love this grain whisky! A perfect way to celebrate the 5th anniversary. Good luck with the next 5, Tommy and Peter!
