This is the August 2019 release of the Highland Park 21 YO. The 15 casks used where filled in 1998 or earlier. About equal quantities of three different cask types were used; 1st fill sherry seasoned European oak casks, 1st fill sherry seasoned American oak casks and refill casks.

Nose: Shy and detached at first. Mild notes of oak and smoldering heather shrubs. Chocolate and hints of rich honey with time. Dusty as well as earthy. Nuts and nutmeg. Coffee beans.
Taste: Full bodied and smartly dressed. Initially there’s dry oak and smoldering heather shrubs on the palate as well. But also a very distinct flavour of floral honey of the peppery persuasion. Nuts and vanilla. In the background a wide selection of fruits, ripe and fresh as well as dried.
Finish: Medium to long finish. Delicate honey with a touch green on the finish - herbs and dried grass. Soft smokiness throughout.
Comment: A very nice dram indeed. I see no reason to dismiss Highland Park, like a few nerds out there seem to do these days.
