Grant's Elementary C Carbon 6 YO
Grant's Elementary C Carbon 6 YO, 40 %
Not a blended whisky today, but a blended malt. I am putting the Grant's Elementary C Carbon 6 YO to the test.
Here is what the marketing department at William Grant has to say about this product:
"Carbon or char, is the sixth element. Found in the peat and in our charred casks, carbon is the key to unlocking a smoky whisky. Matured exclusively in heavily charred oak casks for at least six years, Grant’s Elementary Carbon is deliciously smoky, sweet and smooth. For this blend, Brian Kinsman and his team selected award-winning Single Malts, as well as Peated and Grain whiskies to achieve the perfect balance between sweet highs and deep smoky lows. "
This is a Travel Retail product, but you can also order a bottle online at around GBP 32.
Nose: Very soft on the smoke, I must say. It is hardly noticeable on the nose. Soft oaky notes, vanilla, hints of orchard fruits. Somewhat closed up.
Taste: Medium body. Creamy and spicy. Black and white pepper and a touch of chilies. Hints of ashes and memories of peat. Feels a bit young and rough.
Finish: Medium to short finish. Caramel flavored water with a sprinkling of ashes. A bit rough still.
Comments: OK-ish, but I find it a bit young and rough on the edges.
