Nordic Whisky #158 - Braunstein E:8
Braunstein E:8, NAS, 60.? %
Today I present to you the latest cask edition from Danish distillery Braunstein. The Braunstein E:8 was released in December 2016. This is, as per usual, a single cask release with a total outturn of 250 bottles. Braunstein E:8 was matured in a bourbon cask.
You can order a 50 cl bottle of the Braunstein E:8 at DKK 1850 directly from the distillery shop.
Nose: Tempered notes of toasted oak, deep and rich sweetness (warm marshmallows), baked apples dipped in honey. There might not be a whole lot going on here, but it is very solid and deeply satisfying.
Taste: The same rich sweetness is found on the palate. This is massive! So big and bold! A generous helping of spices mix with the sweetness; pepper, cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg.
Finish: Medium to long finish. Turns even more spicy towards the end. Black pepper ashes. Ginger and lime zest.
Comments: I do not know what it is about Braunstein, but they do keep churning out great drams year after year. Yay!

Apologies for the minuscule bottle image. I have somehow misplaced the pictures I took of the bottle.
