Octomore 10.2
Octomore 10.2, 8 YO, 56.9%
The Octomore 10.2 is a Travel Exclusive that was bottled 2019-07-17. It was distilled 2010, and the peat level is set to 96.9 ppm. This was a release limited to 24000 bottles.
And here are the details on the casks used (from the official product page). As always there is heavy use of European oak in this .2 release:
“Octomore 10.2 edition has spent the first four years of its life in fresh bourbon barrels, before being moved into exceptionally high quality, and incredibly rare Sauternes casks. The reputable chateau who originally managed these casks had filled them three times over with French sweet wine, allowing the oak to mellow and therefore temper its influence in our subsequent spirit.”
Nose: Caramel, dusty oak, and earthy vanilla. Oh, and heavy wood smoke! With time smoked bacon and toasted marshmallows. With time even sweeter and lighter top notes.
Taste: Full bodied and rather dry in character. Ashes, wood smoke, and .. chewing gum. Mint, vanilla and sweet wine. Barbecued pineapple. Softly bitter citrus and oaky notes.
Finish: Medium to long finish. It remains more or less dry all the way. In the end it just mellows out and I’m left with the sweet, sweet tropical fruits and dry ashes.
