Another Irish whiskey on the test bench today. The Writers' Tears Cask Strength 2019 is a vatting of single pot still and single malt Irish whiskey, aged in bourbon barrels and bottled at 53 % ABV.
This is the 9th annual release of this product, and the 2019 expression was limited to 3780 bottles.

Nose: Light notes of milk chocolate and assorted (unsalted) nuts is what first comes to mind. Apples and a sprinkling of sawdust. Spices in the background.
Taste: Rich and full bodied. Fruity like the nose, but now with a fair amount of black pepper added. Not particularly sweet. Nuts again - honey roasted now.
Finish: Medium long finish. More dry by the second. Mixed spices, green herbs and nuts. A bit sweeter towards the end.
Comment: Packs a punch without really swinging a fist. Ambivalent dram.
