Whisky Saga Release #1 - part 1

For a while now I´ve been wanting to release an exclusive Whisky Saga bottling. Why, you may ask. Well, the main reason is simply that I find the whole process quite fascinating (more about that later). A second reason is that I wanted to find and release into the wild (that is - to you) a Scotch single malt that I would love to drink myself. And a third reason is, of course, to further spread the word of Whisky Saga.

When I set out to do this little project I had a short list of criteria:

  • This was not to be a commercial project on my part - I am making no money on this

  • I wanted final say in selecting both the bottler and the cask to bottle

  • I wanted the whisky itself to be full of character and be a little bit off the beaten path

  • ..and finally the end product should be accessible in terms of price

In the end I think we, my partners in crime and myself, succeded in this, but the final judgment sits with you, of course. The bottle price did end up a little bit high. Then again it is being released in Norway, and it is a cask strength release, so that was always going to be a bit of a stretch goal.

Back to the process then; I´ll take you through the whole thing in a series of articles, following this master plan:

  1. Part 1 – this intro piece

  2. Part 2 – the bottler is selected (and thus also the importer to Norway)

  3. Part 3 – the cask is selected

  4. Part 4 – the whisky is released

I leave you with a hint that might help you guess the distillery I selected for Whisky Saga Release #1

Sláinte!
