My first review of an expression from new independent bottlers Turntable Spirits. This company was started by the brothers Ally og Gordon Stevenson just over a year ago. The Turntable Paradise Funk is a blended whisky with a fairly high malt content at 71% (see breakdown below).
Turntable Spirits certainly are pushing the music connection with their expressions, their naming and the accompanying product text. So, I’ll follow suit and add my thoughts on what music could have insipred the product name. For Paradise Funk I’m thinking either “Paradise” by LL Cool J from 2009 or possible old school funk by Kool & the Gang.
The Turntable Paradise Funk will be available in Norway in a few days at NOK 885 (17301101).
Nose: A warm, autumnal bouquet with a soft hint of funk. Aromas of wet leaves, earthy cinnamon, dried fruits, and dark fudge. Over time, it reveals more vanilla and a deeply sweet fruitiness.
Taste: Full-bodied and creamy, it feels like a higher ABV than 46%, in a good way. The palate mirrors the nose with rich fruitiness and a dark-tinged sweetness.
Finish: Medium-long, maintaining its consistent profile. Not much additional development, but it remains solid, with a green touch and a hint of sweet tomato juice at the end.
Comment: Enjoyably funky.
