Tomatin “Forest Fruits”, ~7 YO, 57.5 %

Another release in the Cooper’s Choice series from The Vintage Malt Whisky Co. The Tomatin “Forest Fruits” was initially matured for about five and a half years in an American oak bourbon cask, and then finished for 16 months in a Ruby Port hogshead (cask #9414).

Nose: Damp forest floor, dirt cellar, wet leaves, dunnage warehouse. Then behind that I find ripe orchard fruits and assorted red berries.

Taste: Full of body and sweetness. Oaky and malty sweetness for the base and on top of this there are mad swirls of spices and tropical fruits. White pepper, even hints

Finish: Medium long finish. Rich, deep sweetness all the way. Creamy vanilla, mango and honey dew melon. Sweet, pickled ginger. Cinnamon and nutmeg. Softly acidic and astringent oakiness in the end.

Comment: A fitting name for a fine dram. I certainly recognize the fruits and the forest floor.
