Tobermory 19 YO Spanish Sherry Cask Finish – Distillery Exclusive
Tobermory 19 YO Spanish Sherry Cask Finish – Distillery Exclusive, 58,2 %
A while back I published my review of the current Tobermory 20 YO distillery exclusive. Time now to publish my review of the previous release, the Tobermory 19 YO Spanish Sherry Cask Finish – Distillery Exclusive.
This whisky was matured in a single Pedro Ximenez sherry cask. It was released in 2013 and is now sold out.
Tobermory is a picturesque distillery located in the small town of the same name, on the Isle of Mull off the west coast of Scotland.
Nose (21/25): Very distinct Pedro Ximenez sherry notes. Actually like sticking your nose in a PX cask (I am sure there are quite a few bung hole sniffers out there that have tried this). Rich, with lots of raisins and almonds. The only reason I do not score it higher is that the PX is a bit too overpowering here.
Taste (22/25): Oak, sherry, pepper and a hint of salt. There are fists full of pepper here, actually. It dances on my tongue, bouncing around - peppy peppy pepper.
Finish (22/25): Sweeter and lighter on the finish. More sugary - powdered sugar. Long and soft landing.
Balance (22/25): After a so-so start, with a somewhat monotonous nose, it really picked up and was really enjoyable.
Score (87/100)
