Thy Whisky No. 15 - Fjordboen
Thy Whisky No. 15 - Fjordboen, 3 YO, 49.5 %
The sherry cask matured whiskies from Thy Whisky, Denmark, are (often) released under the name “Fjordboen”:
“Our sherry cask matured whisky, based on our own rich flavoured pale malt. The old sherry-wood brings a deep, vinous and sweet note to the pleasant malty distillate.”
The facts of this release are as follows:
Barley: Odyssey
Malt: Pale, Vienna and Münich malt
Casks: ex-Oloroso and ex-bourbon casks
Distilled: 2017 and 2018
Bottled: May 2021
Bottles: 1982 (50 cl)
In total about 30 % of the casks used at Thy are sherry casks.
This whisky is still available directly from the distillery online at DKK 1000.
Nose: Soft, warm and charmingly fruity. Rich maltiness. Creamy caramel pudding. Really opens up with time. Love the delicate sweetness.
Taste: Full bodied. A little rough at first, then it quickly mellows out with dried fruits and caramel. Somewhat dry in character. White pepper.
Finish: Medium to short finish. Remains dry till the end. Orchard fruits as well as dried fruits. Caramel and chewing gum in the end. Aniseed and creamy vanilla as a finale.
Comment: Strange but very charming.
