Teeling Single Malt
Teeling Single Malt, NAS, 46 %
About time I tried an Irish whiskey, and this time it is an Irish single malt whiskey. It is a product from the Teeling Whisky Co. The new Teeling Distillery in Dublin started production in 2015, so the whiskey in this bottle is not produced at the new distillery. It is in fact made up of whiskey produced at the Cooley Distillery, which the Teeling family owned up until 2011, when they sold it to Beam.
Here is what they say about their product:
Third release in the Premium range of Teeling expressions completing our full range of non aged Irish whiskeys. Made from 100% Malted Barley from a range of different ages including Malt whiskey distilled in 1991. Aim to produce the most flavoursome NA Irish Single Malt based on our innovative maturation/finishing techniques while retaining the distinctive Irish smoothness.
Consists of a vatting of 5 different wine cask (Sherry, Port, Madeira, White Burgundy, Cabernet Sauvignon) finished Irish Malt whiskeys.
The other two expressions in their Premium range are the Small Batch and the Single Grain.
You can buy the Teeling Single Malt in Norway at NOK 460 (3871301), in Sweden at SEK 499 (84271), and online in the UK at around GBP 40.
Nose: Sweet and light, with soft wine notes mixed with vanilla and delicate maltiness. White chocolate, milk chocolate and hints of strawberries.
Taste: Soft and oily mouthfeel, full body. Honey, caramel and milk chocolate.
Finish: Medium long finish. The sweetness is back in full on the finish, reminding me of a characterful white wine. There is a touch of something green towards the end.
Comments: Delicate and sweet. A fine dram.
