Teaninich 2010 13 YO The Whisky Bar 13th Anniversary (Single Malt Dreams)
Teaninich 2010 13 YO The Whisky Bar 13th Anniversary, 57.9 %
Here we have the latest release from the only Norwegian independent bottler, Single Malt Dreams. This time a 13 year old Teaninich, distilled February 2010 and initially matured in a refill ex-bourbon hogshead. Then reracked March 2023 for a six month finish in a 1st fill ex-Oloroso sherry hogshead (cask #900908), before it was bottled in September 2023. Limited to 263 bottles.
This whisky is released to commemorate the 13th anniversary of the legendary The Whisky Bar, in Oslo. The unique and, I must say, stunning label art is made by Mara Moondust. I am a big comics fan myself, and this label art reminds me of the art of Dave Sim of Cerebus fame (Google it!).
The Teaninich 13 YO The Whisky Bar 13th Anniversary goes on sale in Norway this week at NOK 1650 (16501901).
Nose: The nose presents a cool and well-behaved demeanor with a creamy vanilla and almond milk forefront. There is a background of orchard fruits. As time progresses, a faint hint of bitterness emerges through the guise of rowan-berries. The aromatic profile is further enriched by a whiff of cut grass, mint, and a medley of assorted green herbs.
Taste: The taste is full-bodied and consistently fruity, unveiling rich notes of juicy orchard fruits. The character is almost wine-like in its richness. A deep spiciness pleasantly sneaks up to add a warm contrast to the fruity essence.
Finish: The finish is medium-long and takes a greener turn while maintaining its fruity heart. Notes of cut grass and mint reappear, accompanied by ripe orchard fruits. A creamy, nutty character playfully flits in and out of focus, adding a whimsical touch.
Comment: The nose is just lovely, and the palate is rather good as well! So what’s not to like?
