This is the 2022 edition of the Springbank Local Barley. Distilled in May 2011 and bottled on December 12, 2022, this whisky was matured in a combination of 55% ex-sherry casks, 35% ex-bourbon casks, and 10% ex-rum casks. Limited to 15000 bottles.

Nose: Chocolate, cereal, and rich maltiness are accented by white pepper. Warm notes of barbecued orange slices stand out, complemented by citrus elements like lemon and lime zest, mandarin juice, and the subtle sweetness of barley juice. A pinch of salt lingers in the background.

Taste: Full-bodied, rich, and quite malty. The palate features a combination of rich malt notes, cereal, milk chocolate, and tropical fruits, complemented by creamy vanilla. Hints of rhubarb and the earthy, musty aromas of a dunnage warehouse (traditional whisky warehouse with dirt floors and stone walls) add depth.

Finish: Medium-long, with the salty notes from the nose making a happy return, weaving seamlessly with the fruitiness and enhancing the rich maltiness. The fruitiness and rich maltiness persist throughout.

Comment: Delightful!
