Nordic Whisky #25 - Braunstein Danica Whisky
Braunstein Danica Whisky, NAS, 42 %
Braunstein Distillery (Bryghuset Braunstein) in Denmark recently launched their first ever Travel Retail exclusive. The Braunstein Danica Whisky comes with no age statement, and is bottled at 42 % ABV.
This product is produced in batches (of unknown size), and I have tried a bottle from Batch 2014-01. It has been matured in a mix of bourbon and sherry casks.
The price for the Braunstein Danica Whisky is about € 60 online.
Nose (22/25): The nose is well-rounded, rich and soft. The bourbon sweetness comes through, and it is fruity and mild. I pick up a bit of milk chocolate as well. The sherry influence is hardly noticeable on the nose.
Taste (21/25): Now fruity, sugary and in general rather sweet. Oranges mixed with a pinch of pepper and a vague hint of dark fruits.
Finish (21/25): Oranges still, with more caramel added. Finally the sherry notes with the dark fruits and darker chocolate and more prominent.
Balance (21/25): A nice dram. Too bad it is only available on Travel Retail. I would have wanted it at a slightly higher ABV as well, but that is nitpicking.
Score (85/100)
