New York Distilling Company 2 YO Rye - batch 2 (TBWC)
New York Distilling Company 2 YO Rye - batch 2, 50 %
I continue working my way through American whiskey from independent bottler That Boutique-y Whisky Company (TBWC). Today I am tasting the New York Distilling Company 2 YO Rye - batch 2. The total outturn for this release was 481 bottles.
This rye spirit has been finished in an applejack cask, and it is the first product I have tasted from New York Distilling Company.
You can buy the New York Distilling Company 2 YO Rye - batch 2 at around GBP 38 online.
Nose: This cowboy dram appears mellow and laid back at first. There are hints of black pepper, vanilla and sawdust. A pair of dusty leather boots and metal spurs. Dry biscuits and cereal in the background. With time I detect notes of grass and hay as well.
Taste: Full bodied and very smooth. Certainly a fair bit of pepper here, as well as other 'oaky spiciness'. Toasted oak, cinnamon flavored honey. Vanilla and honey glazed apples.
Finish: Medium long finish. Sweeter and sweeter towards the end. The honey glazed apples take center stage, flanked by toasted oak, caramel and maple syrup.
Comment: This is a damn fine rye.
