Myken Ladies Edition: Autumn Gale
Myken Ladies Edition: Autumn Gale, 4 YO, 51%
Time now for a new release from Myken Distillery. The Myken Autumn Gale has been matured in “ex-sherry casks, ever so slightly peated”, as it says on the front label. The product page on the monopoly website states that is has been matured in “40L ex-sherry casks and slightly larger ex-bourbon casks”. Speaking to the distillery manager himself I am told that this whisky has been matured in mainly 40L ex-sherry casks and “rounded off” with older whisky matured in 200L ex-bourbon cask. I think we can now all understand how many whisky facts are lost in the (alcoholic) mist of history even after 4-5 years in Scotland..
The Myken Ladies Edition: Autumn Gale goes on sale this Wednesday at NOK 880 (18665402).
Nose: Christmas in a glass! Dried fruits—dates, figs, and prunes—mingle with rich malt and dark fudge. Toasted peppercorns, a hint of toasted oak, and a touch of slightly overdone popcorn add depth.
Taste: Full-bodied and decadent, with a bold mix of pepper, caramel, soot, and dried fruits. A touch of tropical fruit lightens it briefly before the rich maltiness makes a welcome return.
Finish: Medium to short, focusing on caramel and dried fruits. A soft green note appears, finishing with a slightly rough peppery kick.
Comment: A festive, layered dram.
