Nordic Whisky #133 - Mackmyra Moment Delägare (9)
Mackmyra Moment Delägare (9), NAS, 51,4 %
I have now reached release number nine in the Moment Series from Swedish distillery Mackmyra. The Mackmyra Moment Delägare ("Shareholders") was released in 2012 in a limited run of 3000 bottles. It was matured in a mix of ex-bourbon, ex-sherry and ex-cloudberry casks.
Here's the description as given on the Mackmyra website:
"Our ninth release in the Moment series is dedicated to all who own a part of Mackmyra, whether it be in the form of private casks or stocks.
Delägare is a soft and chewy Swedish malt that gets its character from our elegant recipe stored in 100-liter casks of ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, new American oak, new Swedish oak and bourbon saturated with cloudberry wine. To reinforce the cloudberry character we have also spiced the whisky with small casks of 30 liters saturated with cloudberry wine."
Nose: Lots of vanilla, fresh oak and cloudberry notes. Yes, I do think they have managed to bring the cloudberry character into the end product here. Now, whether that is a good thing or not in a whisky, I am not quite sure. The nose is sweet, soft and there is nothing bad here at all, really. But it does not really remind me of whisky. It reminds me more of a liqueur.
Taste: Oily and a bit rough mouthfeel. Slightly aggressive oak spices, berries (might be cloudberries), honey, mint and milk chocolate.
Finish: Medium long finish. Sort of a fizzy feel to it now. Still rather sweet - jam and honey and caramel all mixed into one weird... uh... mixture.
Comments: Confusing is the word I would use to describe this whisky. It is certainly not bad quality, it's just, well, confusing.
