Macallan Reflexion
Macallan Reflexion, NAS, 43 %
Here is the third installment in the recently launched Macallan Master Series range. I have previously reviewed both The Macallan Rare Cask and The Macallan No. 6. This leaves only The Macallan M after today.
The Macallan Reflexion has been matured in mainly hogsheads, made from American and Spanish oak. Only 1st fill ex-sherry casks have been used. I have been told that all the whisky that went into this vatting was distilled between 1970 and 1990. So, even if this is a No Age Statement (NAS) whisky, it is fairly old.
The Macallan Reflexion is available to buy in Norway at NOK 9 295 (2044301), in Sweden at SEK 8 999 (8269701). It seems to be sold out in the UK, but the selling price was around GBP 850.
Nose (22/25): Red berries and caramel. It feels slightly darker than the others in this range. I find it a bit malty, with medium heavy sherry notes. Nutty and earthy, with hints of cigar smoke. Dry-ish. It only gets better and better with time in the glass.
Taste (22/25): Dry-ish and full. Rich. Hints of toast and slightly burnt caramel. Dark. Nutmeg. Starts of very soft, then tingling spiciness on the sides of the tongue.
Finish (23/25): Warm, rich and long finish. More sweet now. Maple syrup rather than burnt caramel. Honey. Super rich and full all the way. Nutty!
Balance (22/25): A very fine dram!
Score (89/100)
