Macallan Masters Decanter Series extravaganza at Dr. Jekyll's in Oslo

Oh. boy! Am I happy the pandemic restrictions are (hopefully) a thing of the past. This means we can get together an enjoy our favorite water of life - single malt whisky. Sure, we have had a semi-normal situation now since Spring of 2022, but it feels like we have all been rather apprehensive and driving with the handbreak engaged. Well, early signs point to the fact that 2023 will be a further step towards normalization. One such sign is the return of super premium tastings.

On February 7, 2023, one such super premium tasting will be hosted at the brilliant whisky bar Dr. Jekyll’s Pub in downtown Oslo. The theme is “Macallan Masters Decanter Series”, and the full line-up is as follows (my score and link to my reviews in parenthesis):

  • The Macallan Sherry Oak 12yo, 40 % (not rated - strangely enough)

  • The Macallan Sherry Oak 18yo, 43 % (86/100 - review)

  • The Macallan Classic Cut Batch 2022, 52.5 % (not yet rated - but here’s my review of the 2018 edition)

  • The Macallan Rare Cask Batch 03 2018 Release, 43 % (not rated - but here’s my review of the 2015 editon)

  • The Macallan Reflexion, 43 % (89/100 - review)

  • The Macallan No 6 20yo, 43 % (87/100 - review)

  • The Macallan M 2016 MMXVI Edition, 45% (91/100 - review)

I’m lucky enough to have tasted most of these previously, including the final 4, but that was back in 2015. Ages ago, when prices were merely high, and not painfully high. These are whiskies that few have a chance to try, and fewer still have the means to procure full bottles of. Tastings where you get to try a range like this is a very rare occasion.

I love the fact that Dr Jekyll’s, and similar specialist whisky pubs and bars arrange tastings like this. Where the impossible becomes a little more possible and obtainable.

The host for the evening will be Jonas Gram, Macallan Brand Ambassador for the Nordics.

If you’re interested in attending this particular tasting see details here.
