A cask strength bottling from one of the new kids on the block, Lochlea Distillery of the Lowland region. Matured in a combination of 1st fill ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks. Bottled May 2023 and limited to 15000 bottles.

Nose: Rich and malty, with lots of fresh fruitiness; ripe apple and pear leading the charge. Mild caramel and vanilla lend sweetness. With time, it turns a little floral, though not quite perfumy. Unexpected hints of mature cheese add a twist.

Taste: Full bodied. A little raw and rough around the edges, but in a charming way. Notes of ripe apples, green herbs and a touch of pepper. Slightly fizzy feel.

Finish: Medium long finish. Stays green and herbal, with the fruitiness carrying through. A gentle nuttiness arrives late, joined by soft notes of milk chocolate.

Comment: Fresh and rustic.
