Lemon Zest 1998 Auchentoshan (Wemyss Malts), 46 %
Wemyss Malts is a Scottish independent bottler, that sells blends and single malt whiskies. They are probably mostly known for their blends, but they seem to be focusing more on building their single cask single malt range now.
The Lemon Zest 1998 Auchentoshan was released in April 2014. This whisky was distilled in 1998, and the release is limited to 342 bottles. These releases are given names that are supposed to match their taste profile. A somewhat similar approach to the Scotch malt Whisky Society (SMWS).
This whisky was released in May in Sweden and sold out within a few days (sales price was SEK 898), and it was released in Norway just two weeks ago at a price of NOK 999 (item number 1725301).
Nose (22/25): Fresh! There is definitely a lot of citrus notes here. Lemon zest, lemon drops, apples, and a deep, lovely maltiness.
Taste (21/25): Citrus flavored honey! Sweet, thick and delectable! Vanilla, fudge and ice cream, topped with a few drops of reduced orange juice.
Finish (22/25): Slightly spicy; ginger and pepper. More honey, now accompanied by apples and ripe berries. Citrus and vanilla swirl in the background.
Balance (22/25): This is a really lovely Auchentoshan. In fact I think this is one of the better 'toshans I have tried.
