Lagg Corriecravie Edition, NAS, 55%
This is the second release in the Lagg core range, after the Kilmory (see review). Here is what they say on the official product page:
“The Corriecravie Edition starts its maturation journey in Bourbon Barrels and is then refined for about six months in Oloroso Sherry Hogsheads, sourced directly from the renowned producer Miguel Martin in Jerez, Spain.”
The Lagg Corriecravie Edition is available in Norway at NOK 1199 (19227001).
Nose: A robust wave of peat and soot leads the charge, followed by rich layers of artisan chocolate truffles and a splash of indulgent red wine. As it opens up, deeper notes of honey and dried fruits unfold, along with toasted oak and an earthy trail of wood smoke.
Taste: Full bodied and full of character. A spirited and smoky entrance quickly gives way to a playful medley of spices and vibrant fruits. On the second wave, the dram shifts into a darker, drier gear; bittersweet chocolate and ashen soot balancing out the sweeter notes.
Finish: Medium long finish. The interplay of smoke, spice, and fruit continues to unfold, with a gentle shift toward nuttiness. Imagine a piece of dark chocolate-coated marzipan that’s been ever so slightly rolled in ash. Deliciously dirty in the best possible way.
Comment: A rich and riotous dram.
