I last reviewed the Lagavulin 16 YO in February 2013. Time to revisit this classic Islay whisky. Back in the day I scored this whisky 87/100. Let’s see what I think now.

The Lagavulin 16 YO is available to buy at NOK 890 (464401) (BTW, in 2013 the price was NOK 730).

Nose: Pepper and hints of peat smoke. Dark caramel. A little green, in a positive way. Iodine and a light spiciness. Softly meaty.

Taste: Medium body with sweet and peppery ashes. Sugary sweet indeed. White sugar over apple, pear and pineapple. More meaty now but without a lot of body.

Finish: Medium long finish. Dark caramel and dark chocolate with peat smoke. Sweet licorice and cinnamon. A little artificial sweetener towards the end.

Comment: Sweet ashes.
