This is the 2018 release of the Kilchoman Port Cask Matured. It was distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2018. The Kilchoman Port Cask Matured was matured in ruby port hogsheads, and released in a limited run of 10000 bottles.

The Kilchoman Port Cask will go on sale in Norway tomorrow at NOK 1250 (10554501). It has been on sale in both Sweden and the UK previously, but has sold out.

Nose: Whoa! I can dig this. Cool dunnage warehouse, rhubarb, earthy wood smoke, vanilla, icing sugar, simple syrup, canned pears, lemon zest and fruit drops. After a few minutes the meatier side of Kilchoman creeps forth from the shadows, but it never enters center stage.

Taste: Full-bodied and relatively sweet - although it quickly takes on a rather dry note. Again rhubarb, and an earthy character. Briny and somewhat maritime.

Finish: Medium long finish. Pepper and dry ashes now. Grape juice and caramel sauce. Ginger. Perhaps a touch lighter and sweeter towards the end.

Comments: Port and peat! When it works, it really works. It's not refined or complex, but it gives you a liquid bear hug and just makes you smile.
