Nordic Whisky #266 - Isle of Lime Shareholders by Shareholders
Isle of Lime Shareholders by Shareholders, 5 YO, 48.5 %
This is the fifth release for the shareholders of Swedish distillery Gotland Whisky. The Isle of Lime Shareholders by Shareholders is so named because they picked seven shareholders to help select which casks to use and how to compose this release.
In the end they selected a composition consisting of 10 1st fill ex-bourbon barrels (200 litre) and two Hungarian oak casks (96 litre).
Here are a few other facts from the official product page:
Type of barley: Tipple ecologically grown on Gotland
Farms: Halner farm, Bro and Sigdes farm, Rone
Malt: Malted in the farm of Sigdes in Rone, Gotland. Smoked with peat for 9 hours
Water: Gotlandic hard water
Yeast: Dry yeast for Maltwhisky. DistilaMax MW
The product is described as lightly peated.
Nose: White pepper, vanilla and a soft oakiness. With time more vanilla as well as caramel. Butterscotch.
Taste: Creamy and medium rich mouthfeel. Again the white pepper is front and center. It feels dry and borderline bitter. Some oakiness present - and it does not play too well with the rest of the team. Caramel and honey drizzled on top of creamy vanilla ice cream. Hints of peat in the background.
Finish: Medium long finish. The dryness and bitterness subsides and give way to orchard fruits and hints of floral honey. It strikes a very nice balance between the spices and the fruits towards the end.
Comment: Another fine effort from Isle of Lime.
