Inchmoan 12 YO
Inchmoan 12 YO, 46 %
Today I am taking a close look at the peaty member of the Loch Lomond core range, the Inchmoan 12 YO. It has been matured in a mix of recharred American oak and refill bourbon American oak casks. 50 ppm phenol malt is used in the production of the Inchmoan.
You can get a bottle of the Inchmoan 12 YO in Norway at NOK 670 (1557701), in Sweden at SEK 559 (048601), and in the UK around GBP 43.
Nose: Not all that peaty at first sniff. There’s a certain element of engine oil, black coffee and cold ashes. Vanilla, nuts, honey, cinnamon and toffee. Quite enjoy this.
Taste: The body dial is set to medium, the peat-o-meter is at three quarter full, while the spices are turned all the way up. Whoa, that’s spicy. Cayenne pepper, ancho chili, szechuan pepper, black pepper, you name it. Quite peaty as well, fiery hot coal and hot ashes. Vanilla, chocolate and hints of summer fruit.
Finish: Medium to short. The flash of action that hit the palate soon dissipates, and I am left with a somewhat disappointing finish. Lingering heat from the spices and the hot ashes.
Comment: A spice bomb with a peaty edge to it.
