Ichiro's Malt Mizunara Wood Reserve
Ichiro's Malt Mizunara Wood Reserve, NAS, 46.5 %
This is another of the famous blended malt products from Ichiro Akuto. When he started the Chichibu Distillery in Japan he brought with him the entire old stock from then closed distillery Hanyu. This is a blended malt made up from single malt produced at Chichibu and Hanyu. The Ichiro's Malt Wine Wood Reserve is finished in casks made from Mizunara oak (also referred to as Japanese oak).
When Ichiro first released this product the Hanyu content was higher than it is now. This is natural since the Hanyu stock is dwindling and the Chichibu stock is growing and aging well.
The Ichiro's Malt Mizunara Wood Reserve (MWR) will be available to buy in Norway in two days at NOK 1700 (10554401).
Nose: Cigar box, and exotic wood notes. Hints of wet leaves and earthy notes. Fruit drops with icing sugar.
Taste: Medium to rich in body. Lots of pepper to the taste. A tad astringent, but at the same time a mellow sweetness. Weird, I know. But that's what I get.
Finish: Medium to short finish. Actually a bit oaky now.
Comments: The nose is far more exotic than the palate on this one.
