Highland Park The Sword - Viking Collection

Here is a Highland Park released exclusive for Taiwan. The Highland Park The Sword - Viking Collection was distilled in 1997 and released in 2010. The release was limited to around 1000 bottles.

This whisky was matured exclusively in sherry casks, with a majority of these casks being refill casks.

The Highland Park The Sword - Viking Collection is now sold out, but you might still find a bottle at an online auction at around GBP 300.

Nose (22/25): This is certainly a Highland Park - no hiding that fact. We have the mild whiffs of smoke, mixed with that lovely honey sweetness right off. I also find caramel, mild oak, vanilla, soft spices, and red berries. Quite nice, I think.

Taste (21/25): Much as expected with that nose. Relatively mild and quite soft mouthfeel. Mild pepper, a pinch of salt, honey, dried fruits and a sugary sweetness.

Finish (22/25): More pepper, and actually more peat on the finish. Medium long. Fruity, with vanilla and a light touch of wood.

Balance (22/25): A fine dram from the Orkney distillery. Not much more to say, really.

Score (87/100)
