High Coast Solera 03, 6 YO, 56 %

Matured in High Coast Distillery’s own solera system, where they use a mix of American oak ex-bourbon casks and Swedish oak casks. This third batch is limited to 2465 bottles. The High Coast Solera 03 is unpeated.

You can still pick up this whisky in Sweden at SEK 895 (41203).

Nose: Soft and delicate notes of assorted nuts, creamy vanilla, milk chocolate and earthy cinnamon. With time more nuttiness, as well as coconut milk and cacao nibs.

Taste: Smooth and very rich. Honey with attitude. Earthy cinnamon. Dry-ish notes of ginger. Fizzy chocolate.

Finish: Medium long finish. Rich fruitiness and again the assorted nuts. Creamy vanilla and that odd Swedish oak sweetness in the end.

Comment: The Solera batches from High Coast continue to make me smile. The Swedish oak has thankfully not taken over.
