I recently managed to buy a couple of sample kits for the Online Tasting Week 2021. One of the whiskies I thus got to try was this Hazelburn 15 YO.

This whisky has been fully matured in 5 fresh Oloroso sherry hogsheads. The release was limited to 1174 bottles, and they sold out very quickly.

Nose:  Absolutely delightful sherry nose! Soft, warm spices. Cuddly dried fruits. Fluffy caramel and butterscotch. To be more specific - there’s cinnamon, even a hint of sweet licorice. Nutmeg. Cloves. Gingerbread. Baked apples and juicy figs. Creamy vanilla.

Taste: Very rich, honey like, thick, full bodied. Soo sweet. Soo fruity. Honey, honey, honey!

Finish: Long finish. The same thick, rich, honey like sweetness - with a softly spicy and burnt edge to it. Hint of mint in the end.

Comment: Honey with an attitude! Gimme some sugar, baby! OK, so there’s not much left of the distillery character here, but with casks like this - who cares!?
