George T. Stagg Barrel Proof 1995 / 2012
George T. Stagg Barrel Proof 1995 / 2012, 16 YO, 71.4 %
If only I could get my hands on more bourbons like this one, I would be a very happy man indeed! Matured in charred new white American oak barrels, of course.
Nose: How can there be no alcohol bite whatsoever here?! It’s frickin' well over 70 % ABV! Strawberries, rich caramel sauce, maple syrup, vanilla and toasted oak. With time also almond paste, unsalted peanuts and popcorn. And cherry jam!
Taste: Very rich and very much full bodied. Sugary sweet, with tons of the expected honey, caramel and maple syrup. Beneath all the sweet goodness there’s also a rich fruitiness.
Finish: Medium to long finish. The same rich sweetness prevails. Also picking up hints of cherry jam and a pinch of salt. The underlying fruitiness is slowly taking over. In the background grener notes of cut grass and mint.
Comment: It’s been an honour!
