Here is the last golden oldie of the day. The Four Roses Single Barrel Limited Edition 2013 Release is a bourbon made at Four Roses Distillery. For this whisky they have used their OBSK recipe, which they describe as their spiciest recipe.

At Four Roses Distillery they have two mashbills (A and B) and they combine these with five proprietary yeast strains to create 10 distinct bourbon recipes. And OBSK is one of these.

Mashbill B is a “rye forward” bourbon mashbill; 60 % corn, 35 % rye and 5 % malted barley. More on this particular bourbon recipe here.

Nose: Soft and delicate. Very well integrated, as there is no alcohol bite in spite of the very high ABV. Polish, leather, cinnamon and toasted oak. Toasted marshmallows and vanilla ice cream. Softly floral with time. The nose mellows out and just keeps developing and caressing my nose. This is lovely.

Taste: Definitely nothing lacking here body wise. Assorted peppers and chili up front, followed by creamy vanilla, rich fudge and cinnamon. Floral notes bordering on perfume, but well on the right side of said border.

Finish: Long and spicy finish. Creamy and rich caramel, and in the background ripe, red apples. Leather, polish, green herbs and honey. It is all a bit overwhelming, but in a very good way.

Comment: Delightful!
