Fettercairn 2009 10 YO (A.D. Rattray)
Fettercairn 2009 10 YO (A.D. Rattray), 58.7 %
Another (partial) single cask release exclusively for Norway from independent bottler A.D. Rattray. The Fettercairn 2009 10 YO was distilled on 2009-03-31, matured in a bourbon hogshead (cask #1096) and bottled on 2020-02-03. The (partial) outturn was 54 bottles.
Here is a fun fact for the nerds out there; Fettercairn used stainless steel (not copper) condensers between 1995 and 2009, which influenced the spirit character. I must confess that I have not dived deeply enough into the subject matter (and whisky) of Fettercairn to elaborate on exactly how this affected the spirit, but maybe you can enlighten me?
Bonus fun fact: At Fettercairn they have installed a cooling ring on the spirit still. Cold water circulates in the cooling ring around the swan neck, resulting increased condensation and reflux.
The Fettercairn 2009 10 YO goes on sale in Norway on June 4 at NOK 1019 (1751201).
Nose: Starts off as a bit shy and closed. Give it time. A bit dry in character. Hints of vegetables. Vanilla, toasted oak and mild spices.
Taste: Medium body. Sugary sweet. Fizzy on the tongue. Caramel and ginger soda. Coconut and pineapple sprinkled with icing sugar in the background.
Finish: Medium long finish. More ginger soda. Dry on the palate as well now. The sweetness takes on an artificial sweetener edge towards the end.
Comment: Fair enough.
