Fary Lochan Sæson 1

Fary Lochan Sæson 1, NAS, 47%

I have reviewed Batch 2024 #1 of the very first core range single malt whisky from Danish distillery Fary Lochan. The product is called Fary Lochan Sæson 1, and “sæson” is Danish for season.

This is a small batch expression, with each batch made up of 3-5 casks - a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. Batch 2024 #1 is made up of one 1st fill ex-bourbon barrel (200 l) and two 2nd fill ex-Oloroso sherry hogsheads (250 l), and is limited to 1408 bottles.

You can find more info, including recipes for cocktails, on the official product page. I did try it in a Manhattan the other day, and it works like a charm.

The Fary Lochan Sæson 1 is available to buy from the distillery online shop at DKK 595 (70 cl).

Nose: Soft and appealing notes of caramel and orchard fruits, balanced and warming with well-integrated alcohol. Over time, green notes of cut grass and mint emerge, along with unsalted peanuts and creamy vanilla.

Taste: Medium-bodied, mirroring the nose with creamy caramel and fudge followed by assorted orchard fruits. A hint of white pepper and a whisper of toasted oak add complexity, along with dried fruits and earthy notes of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Finish: Medium-long, with spices gradually making their presence known with each sip. Fresh fruits transition to dried fruits, evoking memories of Christmas cake.

Comment: Danish craft whisky flexing its muscles!
