About one year ago I reviewed the Eiktyrne Quadruple Batch I (see review). Now it is time for Batch II.

No age is given for the Eiktyrne Quadruple Batch II but it is most likely in the range 3-4 years old.

The name Quadruple does not indicate quadruple distilled but rather that is has been matured in four different cask types. The cask types used this time around are American virgin oak (225 litre), bloodtub oloroso cask (40 litre), ex-brandy cask (300 litre), and finally Jerez de la Frontera PX butt (500 litre). The difference from batch I is the type of PX cask, as the batch I used a PX cask from Montilla-Moriles.

The batch size is 892 bottles (50 cl).

The Eiktyrne Quadruple Batch II goes on sale in Norway on November 6 at NOK 748 (12263102).

Nose: Warm and welcoming. White pepper, black pepper, earthy vanilla and earthy cinnamon. Rich, deep and fruity sweetness. Cocoa nibs - dry, dusty, rich and decadent. Baked apples with a dusting of caramelized honey. Dark chocolate with nuts and cherry jam filling, with a sprinkling of orange zest on top.

Taste: Rich and full bodied mouthfeel. Creamy malt and chocolate with cherry jam. Dried fruits - mainly apricot, plums and figs. Mild spices.

Finish: Medium long finish. A fine balance between deep fruity notes and tempered spices. Vanilla and mild caramel sauce. A quartet of black pepper corns, thyme, green mint and dried ginger in the end.

Comment: Well, I like it!

Score 88/100
