Nordic Whisky #221 - Box Whisky The Festival 2018
Box Whisky The Festival 2018, 6 YO, 54.5 %
OK, then. I’m back from summer vacation. Time to pick up some slack around here. Starting off with this fine festival exclusive released last summer by Swedish distillery Box Whisky (now High Coast Distillery).
You can read up on all the nerdy details here, but the highlights are as follows:
Age: 6.47 years
Peat: 40 ppm
Casks: 200 litre ex-bourbon casks for 5.42 years + 14 months finish in 40 litre fresh American oak
Bottles: 1000
Size: 50 cl
Price: 995 SEK
Nose: A bit closed and shy at first. There's peat here, but for now it is holding back. Soft oakiness - sawdust and toasted oak. With time it opens up, and what started as a relatively meh kind of nose actually turns out to be very nice.
Taste: Full bodied and quite sweet. Massively spicy and peaty up front. Chili ashes, peppery soot, spicy smoke. Oaky spice sting.
Finish: Medium long finish. Camphor - quite distinctly. Strangely numbing on the tongue. Greener and greener towards the end.
Comment: Lovely nose, and great delivery.
Score 87/100
