Black Whiskey - Andean Black Corn Whiskey

Black Whiskey - Andean Black Corn Whiskey, 3 YO, 45%

A bourbon style whiskey produced in Peru, by Don Michael Distillery located in Lima. The distillery was established in 2017, and released their first whiskey for sale in November 2019.

The mash bill for this product is 60% Andean black corn (grown 10.000 feet above sea level), 30% malted wheat and 10% malted barley. The Black Whiskey has been matured in new American oak casks.

I tasted this whisky as whisky No. 1/24 in the 2024 Whisky Tour of the World from Gravity Drinks.

You can buy the Black Whiskey directly from the distillery at 190 peruvian sol (approximately €46).

Nose: Corn sweetness blended with notes of strawberries and vanilla ice cream. Over time, soft hints of dried fruits, especially sweet raisins, emerge alongside orange peel.

Taste: Medium-bodied, starting with a touch of pepper before a wave of corn sweetness takes over. Rich and creamy, with strawberries making a return, accompanied by rich notes of cinnamon and vanilla.

Finish: Medium-long, with the pepper subsiding but leaving behind a subtle spiciness. A mix of tropical and dried fruits, with vanilla and sugary sweetness lingering at the end.

Comment: Smooth and satisfyingly sweet.
