Balblair 18 YO
Balblair 18 YO, 46 %
..and here we have the third expression in the brand new core range from the Highland distillery Balblair. I have previously looked at the new 12 YO and 15 YO, today I will review the Balblair 18 YO.
This whisky was initially matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks, followed by a finish in 1st fill Spanish oak butts.
You can buy the Balblair 18 YO in Norway starting Friday September 6 at NOK 1400. It is also available in the UK at around GBP 118.
Nose: More oaky than the 15 YO, and a bit more closed on first sniff. The dried fruits are more to the forefront as well, masking the citrus and apples. Marzipan and milk chocolate in the back.
Taste: Velvety and full-bodied. Mixed spices, creamy chocolate and oranges hand in hand,
Finish: Medium long finish. Oddly enough it feels as if it has a shorter finish than the 15 YO. Dried fruits and mild caramel notes take over. Towards the finish I find a somewhat green note.
Comment: A fine, classic Highland whisky. Well balanced and fruity.
