Ardmore Peated 2008 9 YO

Ardmore Peated 2008 9 YO

This is a single cask release from ancient independent bottlers Berry Bros. & Rudd, London. A peated Highland whisky from the Ardmore distillery. The Ardmore Peated 2008 9 YO has been matured in an unspecified cask (cask ref. 708628).

Most of the production from Ardmore goes into the Teacher's blended Scotch. About 40 % of the annual production is unpeated, and goes under the name Ardlair. The peated production is mostly at a peat level of 12-14 ppm, but there is also some production of a more heavily peated spirit, as witnessed by this single cask release.

The Ardmore Peated 2008 9 YO will come on sale in Norway at NOK 1100 (10554201) in a few days.

Nose: A lovely smokiness that is mild, tempered, woodsy and a bit earthy. Soft vanilla and coconut notes. Mixed fruit drops.

Taste: Medium to rich body. Much the same impressions as I got from the nose. In addition I detect camphor and a touch of green. There are also notes of ginger. Comes across as a bit fizzy.

Finish: Medium long finish. Not a lot of further development, but I do not really care. This is just right. A most robust, young-ish, peaty whisky.

Comments: Earthy with bundles of charm.
