Amrut 2009 Single Cask Portpipe #2714, 4 YO, 59 %

I have long been a fan of Amrut whisky from Bangalore in India. A few months back they released a few single casks expressions, bottled for the European market. I have now tried the Amrut 2009 Single Cask Portpipe #2714. This is a peated Amrut, and it has been matured in a cask that has previously held port wine.

The whisky was distilled in June 2009, and it was bottled in August 2013. The outturn was a total of 354 bottles. The angels' share is incredibly high in Bangalore, and the total maturation loss, in the cask, over just four years was a whopping 45 %! That's almost half the cask content gone in just four years. Happy angels!

You can still buy this whisky at Vinmonopolet in Norway, at NOK 1213 (item number 1118301). It appears to also be available in Sweden, although the cask number is not specified. All else appears to be identical though, so I image it is the the same whisky. The price in Sweden is SEK 1159 (item number 84023).

Nose (23/25): Marshmallows warmed over a bonfire. Sweet and delicious smoke, dark sweetness, fruits, berries, and homemade, artisan bread. A mouth-watering nose!

Taste (23/25): Sweet, peaty, oily, creamy, pepper punch! But this punch is as welcome as a hug from a loved one. Turn the other cheek, I am ready for another punch. Right here! Hit me!

Finish (22/25): The sweetness keeps developing. There's fruits, there's berries, there's caramel, and there are notes reminiscent of wine and port wine. Very rich, complex, and warming. Long and lingering.

Balance (23/25): How do they do it, these wizards from Bangalore? This is a darn good dram!
