I have now tried my second whisky from Swedish distillery Wannborga. The first taste I got from this distillery is reviewed here. The Wannborga 5 YO Ö Whisky - 10 Years Anniversary is a medium peated whisky, that has been finished in port wine barrels.

The main component of this whisky has been matured for five years in ex-bourbon casks. There's also a little bit from each vintage they have been producing whisky at the distillery - hence the 10 Years Anniversay. Finally the whisky was given a finish for a few months in port wine barrels.

The was released for sale in Sweden just a few months ago, in a limited run of 1000 bottles. The sales price is SEK 699 (3110502), and there are still bottles left to buy.

Nose: It is somewhat earthy, like a damp cellar with a dirt floor. There's bits and pieces of toasted oak scattered about. In one corner sits an old fireplace, cold ashes from old fires spill out on the floor. A wicker basket filled to the brim with ripe, red apples and red grapes, take centre stage. It is dusty in here. Stacks of ancient papers are placed on top of a small, wooden table. Next to the papers is a burned down wax candle.Someone has toppled a bowl of marshmallows onto the table, with a few white blobs having hit the floor, now half covered in dust and ashes.

Taste: Medium body and soft mouthfeel. Fruity and earthy to taste as well. The palate matches the nose well, even if the palate is less complex.

Finish: Medium to short finish. Continues as it started, but fades away a bit too quickly. Towards the end it pick up a slightly bitter-ish and watery character.

Comments: It shows great promise. To have a nose this complex is quite impressive. Give it a bit more time and the palate will come along as well. Exciting stuff.
