Nordic Whisky #164 - Thy Fad No. 6 Kræn Kræmmer
Thy Fad No. 6 Kræn Kræmmer, 3 YO, 50,4 %
Here is another exciting release from the small Danish distillery Nordisk Brænderi. The Thy Fad No. 6 Kræn Kræmmer is their 8th (I believe...) and most recent release (there was a special edition, and then both a 2a and 2b).
The Thy Fad No. 6 Kræn Kræmmer was matured in two ex-sherry casks (cask # 26 and 28). The casks were filled in October 2013 and March 2014 respectively. In March 2017 the whisky was bottled, with a final outturn of 642 bottles (50 cl).
Ecological Imperial barley, grown in Denmark, was used in the production, as with all previous releases.
The Thy Fad No. 6 Kræn Kræmmer is close to sold out. You might still find a bottle or two at one of the specialist stores in Denmark. The selling price is DKK 1049.
Nose: What a fluffy, light snowflake of a whisky. There's icing sugar and mild sherry notes at first. Then waves of of creamy, white chocolate and dried fruits. With time I get darker chocolate and coffee beans. More dried fruits make an appearance as well, mixed with notes of cinnamon and cardamom.
Taste: Rich and full-bodied. Caramel sauce and milk chocolate stand out. In the background there's tempered spices, mainly black pepper and cinnamon.
Finish: Medium long finish. It is creamy and rich. The sweetness increases towards the end, and then - out of nowhere - I get cold, sweetened coffee.
Comments: Wow! What an amazing dram! It just gets better and better in the glass. They must have gotten their hands on some fantastic casks at Nordisk Brænderi.
